Grand Opening at Cwmdonkin Park
Saturday 7th September. We will be at Cwmdonkin Park – one of our sister “One Historic Garden” parks in Swansea – for the grand opening event to celebrate the restoration of its key features. The day – starting at 12pm – will involve a whole host of entertainment including live music, poetry readings, workshops and more.
Volunteer at the new Visitor Centre – Information Session
Tuesday 10th September. Do you have a few hours spare to help us run our brand new visitor centre? If so, come along to an information session where you’ll have the opportunity to find out more about the visitor centre and volunteer visitor centre assistant role. 5pm – 6pm. Volunteer Tour Guide Taster Session
Saturday 14th September. Tour Guides have a vital role to play in delivering inspiring and enjoyable tours helping groups to learn more about Penllergare Valley Woods. Philip James, Project Director, will be running a taster session for anyone interested in the Volunteer Tour Guide role at 12.30pm. You will also get the chance to accompany him on a guided walk as part of the Open House Swansea weekend at 2.15pm. Open House Swansea Guided Walk
Saturday 14th September. Join Philip James, Project Director, for a guided walk of the estate and restoration project as part of the Swansea Open Doors weekend. 2.15pm. Meet at the Council Office car park in Penllergaer. Don’t forget to wear sturdy footwear! Donations welcome.
Volunteer Research Meeting
Tuesday 17th September. Interested in getting your teeth into a historical, ecological or social research project? Join our research group at the Woodland Centre from 2pm-4pm to discuss opportunities, ideas and findings. Let us know if you’re interested in coming along.
Opening of the new Visitor Centre and Car Park
Friday 20th September. Despite being mid-way through the restoration project, our visitor centre and new car park will be opening to the public on Friday 20th September. The visitor centre which will be run by local volunteers will provide a warm welcome for visitors as well as much-needed facilities. Do pop by for a cup of tea and a chat sometime on or after the 20th. We will be open everyday including weekends from 10am – 4pm. Car parking will be subject to donations towards the maintenance of Valley Woods.
Behind the Scenes Restoration Tour
Wednesday 25th September. Come along on a behind the scenes evening walk of the Penllergare estate with David Connick, the Estate Manager. See restoration works in progress and learn about its history, wildlife and people. 6pm. Meet at the Visitor Centre (SA4 9GS). Wear sturdy footwear. Donations welcome.
Return to the Coalface Guided Tour
Saturday 28th September. Volunteer, Michael Norman, will be running a guided walk of the remains of Tir Donkin Colliery at 2pm. Meet at the Council Office Car park in Penllergaer. Wear sturdy footwear. Free for Friends. £2 for non-members.
