On Sunday 24th March, the Penllergare Trust had the pleasure of hosting a volunteer day for staff from the Swansea HSBC branch. David Connick our estate manager organised the fun-packed day. He provided a short walk and talk about the estate, its history, wildlife and people, and an update about the restoration project followed by a volunteer activity which involved reinstating the path on the east bank of the estate.
We were most grateful for the volunteers’ time, effort and support. We couldn’t ask for better feedback either!
“We all had a great time, and will definitely look to come and volunteer again…if you will have us?! I know that we are all keen to volunteer with you again and see how the project develops. We felt a real sense of achievement having cleared and laid the new path, David also commented that we’d exceeded his expectations in what we’d achieved on the day!
I cannot praise David enough, he was a real star yesterday. He gave us a good insight into the project and what your hopes and ambitions are for the Woods. He also had fantastic knowledge on the history of the site, his passion for what you are all striving to achieve was clear to us all when he spoke. He’s a real ambassador for the Trust.
As a team of people who all live quite locally to the Woods, we could not believe that this ‘green lung’ exists so close to the M4, and that the majority of us had not visited the site before, we definitely will again. I know I’m planning on visiting next weekend to walk the dog!.”
The future sustainability of Valley Woods relies on the financial and physical support of local people and organisations such as the employee volunteers at HSBC Swansea. We hope to host HSBC again and many other employee volunteering groups in the very near future. Thank you to everyone for getting involved and being a part of our story.
